The AGM of the East Cork Ladies’ Football board was held in Carrigtwohill Community Centre on Wednesday, 27th November, 2013.
The Secretary commented on how delighted he was to see the meeting so well attended. In his report he said that there were now eighteen clubs in the division from Youghal to Fermoy and some within the city boundary and it is important that all clubs take an active part.
Once again it had been a very busy year for the board with thirty four finals and hundreds of matches having been played to date. There are a few remaining finals to be played in the next few weeks.
He thanked all the clubs who participated in both league and championship and congratulated those clubs who won the various competitions. A special mention was made of the achievement of the East Cork clubs who went on to take County honours at various age groups.
He congratulated all the girls who both played and won All Ireland medals with Cork in 2013 from U-14 up to Senior. It was great to see so many girls from the division playing on the national stage. The fixtures secretary thanked all referees who did such a good job during the year and especially younger referees starting out for the first time. It is hoped to run a course for new referees in the spring and clubs are encouraged to get more girls involved. He also expressed thanks to all GAA clubs for the use of their fields and facilities during 2013 without whose help Ladies’ Football could not operate.
A new format for the U-8 and U-10 competitions in 2014 along the line of the Go Games model was adopted at Congress and this presented it’s own challenges for next year. A small committee will look at the organising and running of these games.
