As a back drop to this Final Carrig had beaten Fermoy in the East Cork semi final the previous week. This resulting final was played under lights in Killeagh on a very dry cold night. We had been well beaten by Inch in the league earlier on the same pitch and consequently Inch were very much the favourites for this final.
As it turned out this was a low scoring game, with the score at half time 3 points to 1 in favour of Inch. This low scoring was a measure of the strong defence displayed by Carrig who held back a barrage of attacks.
The game commenced in the same fashion and up until the last ten minutes Carrig were within two points of Inch. Unfortunately Inch scored a late goal to finish out winners 1-5 to 3 points.
With such low scoring, the game could have swung in favour of Carrig, unfortunately a number of goal chances did not go Carrigs way. A great display by all the panel who never gave up until the final whistle, Carrig girls showed great heart and skills on the night.
A disappointing result on the night but in reviewing the year overall Carrig had come a long way since the league defeat in May. The selectors took great heart in the presence of over 22 players safe in the knowledge all players would be returning in the new year.
