Carrigtwohill 2-12 Youghal 3-03
Great second half performance secures title for Carrigtwohill.
Carrigtwohill ladies U 16 Football team put in a tremendous second half display to secure a famous victory over a very spirited young Youghal side in Carrigtwohill pitch on Sunday afternoon. Carrigtwohill playing with the aid of the wind opened the scoring with a point after just two minutes but Youghal hit back when Ciara Crowley slotted home a goal from the penalty spot after she had been fouled in the small square. Carrig scored four points to one for Youghal before Aoife McCarthy and Ciara Crowley hit two goals for Youghal against the run of play to leave the score 3 02 to 0-05 at half time.
With Youghal playing with the aid of a stiff cross wind you would have expected for them to press home their advantage, however the opposite was the case as Carrig started to play really good football and went on a scoring spree scoring two goals and five points without reply before Youghal scored their only point of the second half deep into injury time and the Carrig still had time to tag on a couple more points before the final whistle, with the score board reading Carrigtwohill 2-12 Youghal 3-03.
Well done and hard luck to Youghal who tried their best and put up a great performance playing right to the end and never giving in. Congratulations to Carrigtwohill who played extremely well especially in the second period and are worthy champions for 2013.The Trophy was presented to the Carrigtwohill Captain Hannah Kieran’s by Phillip Harrington Secretary East Cork Ladies Football Board.
