Erins Own 5-03 Midleton 2-05.
Fresh from their great win in the U 12 “A” county final the Erins Own club continued their winning ways when they beat a good Midleton side at Rostellan on Friday night last in the “C” Final of the U 14 Championship. The evening was poor but the standard was top drawer with both sides wanting to play good fast open football. The first period was end to end stuff with the back line for both clubs on top and the ball going literally up and down between both 20 mts lines Erin’s Own were first to score from a close in free in the 9th minute from the boot of Cloadagh McNamara, Charlie Moore equalised for Midleton before Susan Roche put the town girls ahead with a fine goal in the 20th minute. Midleton added another point before Erin’s Own hit a great goal just on the stroke of half time to leave them trailing by just 1 point 1-01 to 1-02.
With the light fading and the evening closing in the second half started fast and very exciting. Midleton missed a chance from the penalty spot after two minutes but managed a point from the resulting kick. Erins own re-jigged their forward line bringing in some of their U 12 girls and this changed the dynamics of the game and worked wonders as they scored two fine goals in the 9th and 10th minute from Emma Wallace and Niamh Connolly. This would have broken the heart in many a team but not Midleton who hit back with a goal and a couple of points .But the fitness told in the end with Erins Own scoring a further two goals and a point while Midleton managed only a point. Erins Own ran out deserving winners on a final score line of them 5-03 to 2-05
Well done all concerned who gave us a great hour of entertaining football.
