ERIN’S OWN 1-04 MIDLETON 2-01
This game was a very low scoring match which served to prove that these were two evenly matched and cagey sides.
After Midleton having most of the possesion for the start of the game it was Erin’s Own that opened the scoring after 12 mins. The next score was Erin’s Own again on 19 mins and it was not until the 27th min before Midleton opened their account. Erin’s Own tapped over one more just before the end of the first to leave it 3 pts to 1.
It was Erin’s Own who were first off the mark in the second half with another point before Midleton got a goal from a wicked bounce that caught the Erin’s Own keeper out to make it a drawn game. Midleton put the pressure on from this and were rewarded with another goal which was well worked from their own kick-out to the end result.
Erin’s Own to their credit never gave up and tried time and again to to peg the score back but the Midleton defence looked impenetrable, that is until the 28th min when Erin’s Own finally managed to slip in for a goal of their own to tie the game once more. In the end both sides were happy with a draw and despite the low score this was indeed a very exciting game with end to end action, one could headline it “The Thrilla in Killeagh” . Well done to both teams. The replay has not been fixed yet.
