CORK 6-06 KERRY 3-06
Sunday 26th of may in Abbeydorney Co Kerry was the date and venue that saw these two rivals battle it out once more in the Munster U-14 Final replay. This was always going to be a tough game for both sides and with inclement weather rolling in off Mount Brandon it was going to get tougher.
Cork opened the scoring with a point but despite this it was evident that our girls hadn’t settled and Kerry capitalised on this by notching up 3-01 to our 1 point. But settle they did and with great determination Cork came back with 2-03 without reply to leave it a drawn game at half time
The start of the second half looked ominous for our girls as Kerry were quick to notch up 3 points within minutes and I’m sure the crowd were wondering if it was the best option to play with the wind in the first half.
With grit and determination Cork dug deep and fought their way back and scored two points of their own. Kerry will rue the missed chances of some very score-able points from close range as Cork surged on. Cork took the lead again for the first time since their opening score with a well taken goal. A further 3 goals for Cork ensured the title was going their way as Kerry could only manage a further 2 points.
There was joy all round on the Rebel side when the final whistle blew. These are two great sides and there’s sure to be many a battle between them for years to come. Hard luck to a gallant Kerry side but it is Cork who now advance to the All Ireland Semi finals where they will meet Galway on the 8th of June, time and venue to be decided.
