Glanmire Take U 14 “A” East Cork League Title

Glanmire U-14 Ladies’ Footballers took the “A” East Cork league title when they overcame a very determined Inch Rovers side on Sunday evening last at a sun drenched Rostellan venue. Both teams deserve a lot of credit as this was a great game of fast open football.  Glanmire sprung out of the traps and had the ball over the bar in less than a minute and added a goal and a point before Inch registered their first score in the 11^th minute. Inch had almost all the possession for the next fifteen minutes but was guilty of some very poor shooting and in truth should have been out of sight of Glanmire after this period.  They finally broke through and scored a great goal and a point to level things and both sides exchanged further points before referee Gene Buckley brought the first half to its conclusion with the sides level at 1-3 a piece.

Inch took the lead in the second half with a long range point in the first minute but Glanmire bounced back with good goal almost immediately.  Not to be outdone Inch had the ball in the net three minutes later to regain the lead.

It was end to end exciting football for the next ten minutes until finally Glanmire forged ahead with another goal. They now battened down the hatches playing an extra girl at the back and try as they might Inch just could not break the defence down and eventually Glanmire ran out deserving winners on a score line 3-7 to 2-5.

Glanmire now play Carrigaline and Inch Rovers play Kinsale in the quarter final of the County
