Aghada Ladies’ Football Turn on The Style.

Aghada Ladies’ football held their Annual Social in conjunction with Aghada GAA Juvenile section on Friday night last in Garryvoe hotel. Over 250 girls and boys packed the hotel for a great night of fun and entertainment. After a lovely meal our two Cork senior players Róisín Phelan and Emma Farmer presented the girls from various age groups with their medals. First up were the U 10 girls who won the East Cork league led by their captains Mary Leahy and Áine McGrath. Cathal Cronin did great job with this team as some of the girls had never played before.

Then it was the turn of the U 12 girls who did the club proud in winning the East Cork League and also the County B title. Cathal and Ann Marie McAllister put the finishing touches to this team who were extremely balanced through out. Unfortunately Sarah Leahy their captain was not present as she was representing Aghada in the Scór Na bPáistí East Cork Final in Watergrasshill with a number of other girls and boys.

Finally it was the turn of our U 14 girls who Ian Rose and Tracy O Neill brought over the winning line and while all the girls looked very lovely this team took the honours in the style department with platform shoes being the order of the night.

Most Improved Footballers for 2012 went to Holly Hoban, Angie Stratos, Ciara O Hanlon and new comer Sophie Long.

Presentations were also made to Róisín Phelan and Emma Farmer for their achievements with the Cork Senior Ladies’ footballers who won the All Ireland. Roisin also won a Munster medal with the Cork Minor Ladies.

Hannah Looney and Cassie Tynan were recognised for the part in U 16 Cork ladies who won Munster and were narrowly beaten in the All Ireland Final.

Young and not so young had a great time and danced the night away to an energetic DISCO.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Aghada GAA for their continued support and the use of their facilities in Rostellan and the Juvenile section for their great work in organising the annual social.

Thanks to our major sponsors McCarthy Commercials and Robinson’s Tyres for their support and also to all others who help us continually through out the year.

Thank you  to all the parents who put in so much time behind the scenes getting the girls to matches and training and also to all the trainers and mentors who do outstanding work.

Finally a great thank you to all the girls and young ladies who give us hours of pleasure playing for Aghada.
