 Schools Visit

Many thanks to 2012 Cork Ladies captain Rena Buckey who visited all of the primary schools recently with the Brendan Martin Cup and spoke to all the pupils, signed autographs and posed for multiple photos. The Club was really honoured to show case one of Cork’s current All-Stars in our town and her visit has already encouraged some more girls to try out our fantastic game. To all local schools, Club officers who organised and accompanied Rena on the day many thanks for your time and effort which was appreciated by all pupils.

U16GFL Eochaill  defeat  Watergrasshill

Youghal travelled to Watergrasshill for their first game of this years league,on a wet cold day. The weather did not dampem the girls performance and ran out easy winners. This was helped somewhat that watergrasshill could only field 13 players so it was decided to play 13a side. It was the Youghal girls who got off to the brighter start by working hard for each other and taking some fine scores. The score of the half came when a long ball played out of defence was won by Shauna O Connell who turned her marker and made a good run to the 22 and kicked a high ball towards goal and it was Youghals Caira Crowley who won the ball and then turned the full back to drive a great shot to the roof of the net.
As the second half began the mentors made a number of changes, and it was very encouraging to see the girls coming off the bench to perform as good as the starting 13. The 2nd half was like a repeat of the 1st with Youghal well in control. With Youghal taking some more fine scores the signs are good for this young under 16 side. With our local derby with near neighbours Inch or next home game, this win was an important win to build confidence in this side. The Inch game will be played on sat 23rd of feb at 2p.m. Magners Hill.

Peil Camp

Youghal Ladies Football Club will hold their 2nd Peil Camp during the Easter holidays from Tuesday 2nd to Friday 5th. Last year the feedback was very positive with the girls learning and developing new skills in a fun and friendly environment. The camp will once again be run by Charlie McLaughlin former Cork U16 Ladies Football manager. The theme of the week will be around developing proper football techniques and team spirit. “From an early age boys and girls need to be thought the techniques of football properly and that’s what we do”, says Charlie. “Underage structures, at county and club are the future of our game and any opportunity we can give to young players to improve their game the better. “Clubs whose players attend camps benefit in turn and for those new to the game it puts them in the right direction in a friendly atmosphere”. If interested please complete booking form from your manager before February 28th.
