Last Thursday 13th Sept saw Aghada and Fermoy square up in the East Cork Minor A League Final.
Aghada started the strongest and were 1-01 up within 4 mins, goal from Hannah Looney before Fermoy registered their first point. Before Fermoy had a chance to settle Sorcha Phelan struck for goal to put Aghada 6 points clear. But settle they did and got back into the game with the aid of 2 goals from Abbey Scanlon. It was neck and neck for the most of this half until a penalty was awarded to Fermoy and up stepped Aoife O’Sullivan who duly slotted home to the bottom corner of the net. At half time it was Fermoy 3-06 Aghada 2-06.
The second half promised to be a good tight affair but Aghada were stunned by a blistering start from Fermoy scoring 2-02 without reply, 2-01 of that coming from the boot of corner forward Isobel Pyne. Aghada took a while to slot over their first point of the second half but 5 more unanswered points from Fermoy left the game in no doubt thereafter.
In the end it finished Fermoy 5-17 Aghada 2-09
