East Cork Ladies Football Junior C final
Thursday 31st May at Buck Leary’s Cross was the venue for the East Cork Ladies Football Junior C final between Youghal and Bride Rover’s. Bride rover’s with much more experience behind them than the new comers of Youghal made a bright start and soon had a commanding lead. Rover’s dominated midfield with the pairing of Sarah Gleeson and Niamh Barry while up front Sinead O’Driscoll was a constant threat to the Youghal backline. Youghal were not without their chances but failed to convert on several occasions. Katie Sloane and Siobhán Downing played very well and combined to create opportunities for Youghal. Half time though saw Bride Rover’s with a lead of 4-08 to no score
Persistence paid off for Youghal in the second half and they registered their first score with a fine point from Alannah Finn, this was followed up by two goals from the ever dangerous Siobhán Downing. These unfortunately were the only scores for Youghal as Rover’s took control once again and never looked back. It finished Bride Rover’s 5-14 Youghal 2-01 but in fairness the score line doesn’t reflect the great effort put in by Youghal, a team just established last year and credit to them that they are contesting finals at this early stage.
The night however belonged to Bride Rover’s who showed their experience and class out on the field, well done.
Thanks to Glanmire and Michael Hannon who arranged the pitch which was in great condition and thanks to Maurice Mulcahy, referee on the night.
