Monday evening 21st May in Rathcormac was the setting for one of the last Finals to be played in this current run of U-16 and U-14 leagues and what a game it was a pleasure to witness! Bride Rover’s and Inch Rover’s played a thrilling game of end to end football in the decider of the U-14 B East Cork league.

The first 5 minutes were dominated by Inch, having all the play but failing to score. Bride Rover’s got into the game and was first on the score board with a fine goal from Emma Roche followed by a point from the ever threatening Grace Culloty. Inch struck with a great goal from Rachel Geary shortly after with a shot from a tight angle. Inch were guilty of some wasteful chances and were lucky not to be further behind when Bride Rover’s hit the underside of the Inch crossbar only to have it cleared off the line.

Scores from Maeve Walsh, Katie McCarthy and a goal from Lynda Galvin for Inch and a further 1-01 from Bride Rover’s Grace Culloty left the sides level at half time 2-02 each.

Inch started the second half strong once again and their kicking was much more accurate than the start of the first half. Inch took the lead with points from Katie McCarthy, Rachel Geary, Cleeva Motherway and Siobhán O’Brien while Bride Rover’s had just a single point from 13 to leave the score 2-09 to 2-03 in favour of Inch. Bride Rover’s never gave up and battled hard to breach the Inch defence. When Bride Rover’s struck for goal towards the end of the game it was set for a tense finish with just a single goal between the sides. Bride Rover’s continued to search for the equaliser but Inch’s Rachel Geary struck the fatal blow from a free after a counter attack when the ball found the net to kill off any hope that Bride Rover’s may have had. On the final whistle it ended Inch 3-09 Bride Rover’s 3-03.

Well done to both sides for serving up a fantastic game of football and to both sets of mentors.
