St. Colman’s V Watergrasshill Sunday 20th May Shannagarry St.Colman’s and Watergrasshill met to decide the U-16 D East Cork league final. Both sides had players missing, St. Colman’s with 5 of their top players absent still managed a squad of 20 but it was more apparent on The Hill’s side with a squad of 14 on the night. Colman’s started strong and racked up the scores with some good passages of play. Tiegan Cott was the main threat to Watergrasshill throughout the first half latching onto good ball fed in from centre field pairing of Aine Beausang and Niamh Cowhig. Katie Scannell, Claire O’Brien, Aine Beausang and Cliodhna O’Sullivan were also on the scoresheet in this half. Watergrasshill battled hard with Catherine Fouhy and Sheila Connolly determined to keep their side in touch with some well taken scores but at half time it was St. Colman’s who had a comfortable lead. Colman’s started the second half where they left off but it had seemed their scoring boots were removed as they shot wide after wide. Watergrasshill tried to capitalise on this with Natalie Purcell and Elisha Bergin cutting the deficit somewhat. This seemed to be a wake up call for Colman’s who once again found the target ten minutes into the second. Katie Scannell and Tiegan Cott were once again dominant up front. Watergrasshill’s Natalie Purcell and Catherine Fouhy added further scores but it was always going to the home side’s night.St.Colman’s now advance to the D County semi finals.
