What an eventful week in the history of our Club after hosting a very successful Easter Peil camp and holding a “Your Mental Health is Your Wealth” night for all clubs and organisations across both East Cork and West Waterford.
Easter Peil Camp
Our inaugural Peil camp was held over 4 days with 59 girls attending. Current Cork U16 Ladies Football manager Charlie McLoughlin ran the camp putting the girls through 4 fun filled days of drills, skills and games. The theme of the week was developing proper football techniques and team spirit. “From an early age boys and girls need to be thought the techniques of football properly and that’s what we do”, said Camp Co-ordinator, Charlie McLoughlin. “Underage structures, at county and club are the future of our game and any opportunity we can give to young players to improve their game the better. “Clubs whose players attend camps benefit in turn and for those new to the game it puts them in the right direction in a friendly atmosphere”. Each girl also received a full kit as a momento of the week. With weary and tired limbs all the girls went home happy and with new tips and tricks (which were evident in subsequent games against Mayfield and Rock Bán). Comments received from the camp include, “Best camp ever”, “What was good? No Boys”, “We learnt new drills every day”, “It was great to play with the U14s one 8 year was quoted!!”. The club would like to thank all coaches, players and parents who assisted in running the camp and a special word of thank you must go out to our Chairpersom Catriona who had the vision to organise the camp.
Team Updates
Our juniors continued their league games against a strong Lisgoold team last Wednesday, though short a few regulars the girls never gave up and tried their best throughout the hour. Our U14s played top of the table Mayfield in Copperalley on a sunny Saturday afternoon in a tremendous game of football where after playing against the wind the Youghal girls in the 2nd half tore into a 2-5 to 0-1 half time deficit to leave it 2-5 to 1-4 with 5 minutes remaining only to conceed a goal which killed off the contest. Well done to all in what was a great battle and no doubt will stand to you come championship. Their last league game is against Lisgoold. Our U10s headed off to WhiteChurch just north of Cork City to play Rock Bán in their first league game on Sunday. In a very exciting game of football were both sides scored some brilliant scores and gave it their all, the sides were evenly matched going in at half with the homeside 1 pt ahead 1-2 to 1-1. On the resumption Rock Bán extended their lead with 2 goals but full credit to the Youghal girls who fought back to score 1-2 leaving the final score 3-2 to 2-3. Best for Youghal were Lesley Cashman, Kate Galvin and Caoimhe O’Mahoney. Next up is Erins Own at home. While the U10s were doing battle our U9s & 8s also played Rock Bán in which honours were shared and great fun was had by both teams. Our U12s continue their league campaign with an away trip to Bride Rovers
